Advancing Urban Air Quality Monitoring: Insights from the Net4Cities UFP and LDSA Webinar
As part of its mission to transform urban air quality monitoring, Net4Cities hosted two technical webinars on November 13th and November 19th, 2024, highlighting advancements in ultrafine particle (UFP) and lung-depositable surface area (LDSA) measurement technologies. These webinars provided a platform for researchers, city stakeholders, and technical experts to explore the deployment and functionality of cutting-edge air quality instruments.
Innovative Monitoring Technologies for Smarter Cities
Net4Cities aims to install over 20 ultrafine particle instruments and more than 30 LDSA instruments at strategic monitoring sites across 11 partner cities. These deployments utilize state-of-the-art condensation particle counters (CPCs) developed by Airmodus and diffusion-charging LDSA devices engineered by naneos particle solutions gmbh, both leading innovators in particle measurement technology. The webinars served as an introduction to these technologies, offering a detailed exploration of their capabilities and real-world applications.
A Collaborative Effort
The webinars targeted a diverse audience, including consortium members, city measurement network representatives, and scientists from partner cities. Additionally, efforts were made to engage local stakeholders and citizens, with real-time captions and plans for multilingual translations to ensure accessibility.
Looking Ahead
These webinars underscored the potential of advanced UFP and LDSA monitoring technologies in tackling urban air pollution. Furthermore, with the recently revised Ambient Air Quality Directive being passed into law in the EU, measurement of UFP will now be mandatory. By equipping cities with these instruments and fostering a collaborative network, Net4Cities is contributing to a greater understanding of the role of ultrafine particles in air quality management.
